Hong Kong Fever

Dangerous Encounters is punk-rock cinema through and through. Now when I say "punk-rock," I don't mean the trendy fashion; you won't find any lose hanging suspenders, towering mohawks, Doc Martins, or spiked bracelets here. When I say "punk-rock," I am talking about the bona fide ethos, the "I don't give a damn about anything or anyone" attitude embraced by the film's narrative and director. Dangerous Encounters is one of Hong Kong's most infamous films. It was the victim of government censorship because of its political content not its strong violence, both at home and abroad, and is considered by many admirers to be one of the most nihilistic films ever made. Number 67 of top 100 Movies from China.

Three reckless teens go out for a joyride... no spoilers!

Tsui Hark, legendary Producer and director, created with his first film nothing less than a MASTERPIECE. Gritty, cruel and in a immense tempo he shows a degenerate Hong Kong where four youngsters and even more bad caucasian villains come toghether for a bunch of dollars. Not many movies have deconstructed the condition of the human existance in a corrupted world of capitalism  stronger than "Dangerous Encounters of the First Kind".
KINO ANDERS 5 of 5 STARS, STRONG VIOLENCE!!!

22h: Hong Kong 1983, 103min, english subs

When the movie begins, a Chinese boxer gets his ass handed to him by his opponent (played by Bolo Yeung of Enter The Dragon) and winds up laying in a hospital bed, unable to see. He asks his brother, Chan Hung, to travel to Thailand and get revenge for what happened to him. Along the way, he's summoned to a Buddhist temple where his life becomes intertwined with that of a dead monk.

This movie freakin' rules. Words can barely describe the awesomeness of this film. Totally unique, like nothing you've ever seen before. Some people says it's weirder than EL TOPO.
KINO ANDERS tells you NOT MISS THIS!!!

Produced by the legendary Shaw Brothers the movie stars martial arts masters Bolo Yeung (Enter the Dragon, 5 Fingers of Death, Heroic Ones and Lung Wei Wang (Invincible Pole Fighter, Master of the Flying Guillotine).

NUCLEAR WORLDS

Doors open: 20h15

starts 20h30, Soviet Union 1986, 83min. with english subtitles

Widely regarded as one of the best 10 postapacalyptic movies ever.

Deeply disturbing and depressive ... The world after the nuclear apocalypse. Pale light lits the scenery of total destruction. The surviving humans vegetate in wet cellars under the nuclear winter. But somehow human spirit still sees somewhere the dim light of a new and better future. The next generation starts the walk towards a new life...

"This is quite an obscure picture, even by Russian standards... It is dark (literally), morbid, disturbing at times... It requires quite an effort to watch. But it is one of those quite numerous Russian films that leave a deepest impression on the viewers by making them THINK. It is one of those brilliant "what if.." ponderings, never really giving you a final answer, or even if suggesting anything, leaving it open for the viewers to make their own conclusions. Perfectly cast (faces DO match the setting!), perfectly performed, and even the "special effects". imdb

starts 22h, Japan 1982, 106 min. with english subtitles

Burst City is set in a barren, futuristic Tokyo of highways and wastelands, where a rowdy group of punk bands and their fans gather to protest the construction of a nuclear power plant. Riot police and the factory owner's yakuza friends soon move in to break it up. However, the arrival of a pair of mysterious, metal-clad bikers and a revolt among the disgruntled construction crew makes for a situation that spirals dangerously out of control...
Directed by Sogo Ishii (Electric Dragon 80,000V, Gojoe, Angel Dust), Burst City boasts an impressive lineup of early 80's Japanese punk bands, including The Stalin, Battle Rockers, The Roosters, and Inu. An eclectic mix of Mad Max-style imagery with yakuza elements, filtered through a punk sensibility, Burst City reveals the seeds of many of the developments in contemporary Japanese cinema and beyond. Brimming with incredible energy and first-rate rock 'n' roll, Burst City is a lost masterpiece of extreme cinema that has influenced everyone from Takashi Miike to Shinya Tsukamoto.

SPANISH FLY CULT

Doors open: 20h
20h15, Spain 1980, 110min. english subtitles

"Completed in 1979, ARREBATO is probably the most famous Spanish cult film of all time.  It’s been largely inaccessible in the years since its extremely limited original release and so has developed quite a mystique..."

Synopsis:
Jose is a filmmaker putting the finishing touches on his latest production, a schlocky vampire picture.  Feeling supremely dissatisfied with his vocation and heroin addicted girlfriend Ana, he arrives back at his apartment to discover a package from his friend Pedro.  It contains a reel of super 8mm film, an audiotape and a key to Pedro’s apartment.

Flashbacks show how these two men, both of whom share an extraordinary passion for filmmaking, met at Pedro’s family home where Jose was location scouting.  Pedro, who’s never without his super 8mm camera, believes life is only worth anything if it’s caught on film.  Furthermore, he’s tapped a hidden power inherent in film images that causes him to experience a mystical state of “Arrebato,” or rapture.  Before long Pedro becomes addicted to this sensation, eventually cutting himself off from the outside world and devoting his life to filming himself in bed.  His camera in turn grows increasingly powerful as it saps more and more of Pedro’s life force, eventually developing the capacity to turn itself on and off and, more alarmingly, literally erase objects—and, inevitably, people—from existence

 The Story:
A Spanish architect interested in movies decided to help Zulueta financially. The planning was a 15-day filming. However, it was shot in real interiors owned by Zulueta and other friends, like Jaime Chavarri; and most of collaborators used drugs like heroin, that drove the planning and the budget to be highly increased. Pedro Almodóvar dubbed one of the female characters, but he was not credited. The relationship between the director and the producer was poorly damaged. Moreover, the film had a lot of problems to be commercially released due to its experimental and underground style; even though the dictatorship had fallen through. It was finally released in 1980. Ivan Zulueta was labeled as a problematic auteur and Arrebato became a cult movie.

22h, Spain 1983, 90 min.  spanish with english subtitles

In a barren land, a women-only tribe known as the Selenians rule. They are in war with the Tazaris, evil men. Ancient law has it that Tazaris are cursed and the Selenians cannot enter their land, but they can. Likewise, there's another tribe, the Senkas, who are barred by the Selenians from exiting their village and have no clue what's going on outside their land. There's a chosen Senka who aids the Selenians, but this chosen one is murdered... and his brother sneaks out of Senka territory for revenge.

Tunka is one of these soo bad that's good movies. A trash favorite of Kino Anders. Psychadelic view through the whole movie, ridiculous dialogues, worst actors and it's a about Barbarians. So for what are you waiting for?
